Aside from the normal, post-tensioned foundations are uniquely suitable for
where unusual and/or potentially dynamic soil conditions exist. This
is because of their ability to distribute loads over a wide area as well as
enabling the whole foundation to react to an isolated event occurring in any
one section.
What is the minimum safe soil bearing value
for a post-tensioned slab?
Generally 500 psf is considered the
minimum.
Where are post-tensioned foundations mostly
applied?
Over highly expansive silts and clays.
Are they effective for use in areas prone
to settlement?
To a point. They have successfully
prevented significant superstructure damage from settlement in many
hillside locations as well as over reclaimed wetlands. Being soil
supported however, they can be expected to settle with the building pad
should it tilt or subside.
